PostScript Files
PostScript is the worldwide printing and imaging standard. Used by publishers,
corporations and government agencies around the globe, PostScript gives
you the power to create and print visually rich documents with total precision.
As a scalable printing architecture, it can be easily integrated into
a wide range of devices and technologies while maintaining high quality
and performance. PostScripts translates your great ideas into print- exactly
as you intended.
How do I create a PostScript file?
Because print dialog boxes can vary from application to application, it
is difficult to provide specific instructions for creating a PostScript
file from each application. For specific instructions on creating a PostScript
file from the application you are using, see the application's user manual.
Keep the following guidelines in mind when creating PostScript files:
Give a PostScript file the same name as the original document, but with
the extension .ps. When Adobe® Distiller process the PostScript file, it
creates a PDF file of the same name.
Common terminology for creating a PostScript file includes "Print to
File" or "Print to Save". These terms often refer to generating
a PostScript file from word processing software.
Use the following steps as a guide:
1. Choose Print to File or Write PostScript to file.
2. Always embed ALL fonts.
3. Check your paper size selection.
4. Using QuarkXPress for Windows requires changing your printer properties
to save to file.
5. Designate a location.
